Angioedema

Angioedema is the swelling of the deeper layers of the skin on the hands, feet and face including the lips and eyes. If angioedema occurs in the throat, normal breathing can be blocked causing anaphylaxis (fatal allergic reaction). Symptoms usually last 1 to 2 days.

Diagnosis and Treatment for Angioedema

Angioedema can be diagnosed and treated by an allergist. If angioedema occurs because of an allergic reaction, epinephrine might be prescribed to help relieve the symptoms. If airway blockage or suffocation occurs call 911 immediately!

For more information on angioedema or to schedule an appointment with an allergist or asthma specialist, call 1-800-778-9923 or visit the Allergy & Asthma Center location near you.
